In October I raced in the U.S. Open Triathlon Championships in Dallas, TX. It was very exciting to be a part of this. I really worked on my swim for this race and was hoping for a great end to my fabulous season. About a week and a half prior to the race, my youngest came down with croup. This has been by far my least favorite illness as it sounds like your child is going to suffocate. All was well and good as my husband and I took off for Dallas. I woke up race day feeling all right. My swim time was really slow and around mile 11 on the bike, I felt like all the energy had been sucked out of my body. Something wasn't right. I finished the race. I went to talk to someone after and had no voice. The Croup had struck!
So what's up with this week? This past Sunday was the Manitou Sprint Tri which is a race I really enjoy. I was missing racing Sunday morning. Then my 2 year old woke up and couldn't walk. As the day went on, big, sore blisters appeared on his feet. He couldn't put shoes on. Couldn't figure it out.....did he step in poison ivy? did he step on some bugs that bit him? Does he have foot, hand & mouth virus? Besides painful feet he has no other symptoms. Needless to say, it is Wednesday and we have only left the house once, to go to the doctor. My husband is on a business trip so I have no relief - can't hire a sitter when my kid can't walk! So, that means no Darcy time. How would I spend it if I had it? A run of course! Did I mention that this past Monday & Tuesday were GORGEOUS outside? Ahh, this is why I am not training - because I never get to train consistently!
So while it is great to not feel like I have to swim, bike or run, I am naturally an active person. I enjoy the endorphins that come along with a hard core workout. Even though I am not competing against myself in a race, I still like to see how far I can push my body on the same running route, or if I can to a strength training interval faster than the last time. I guess that'll have to do for now!
I can only hope that Willie wakes up tomorrow morning and can walk! Then I can at least take him to the gym and get in a great crossfit workout! My favorite: Row 800 meters(high resistance), 50 full range of motion squats. Repeat 5 times as fast as you can! Wish me luck in beating my last time!

ABS OF STEEL GIRL-do what you can. You're so creative, so put togther a Willy special circuit session! I hope to see it on Cross fit tomorrow!!
Sick kid, husband gone. But you will be at the track tonight, right? With the week you've had I fully expect there to be a lightning storm:-)
In reading your post, I can so relate. And it reminds me something my sister always says to me. "Its just a phase". Your kids are so little, little ones are always getting sick. This phase WILL pass. But- its no fun to see them miserable like that. You are so creative Darcy, you'll figure out a way to get those endorphins going!! Hang in there SuperMom!
MLB! (major league bummer)!!! What doesn't kill you will make you stronger, physically and mentally. We did have 2 days of summer... but "light in the loafers" Sven says there are more of those days to come. hang in there :)
Kids pick up the strangest stuff... YUCK! Hopefully it's not contagous...at least not until hubby gets home :)
