As it turns out, I have had a fantastic couple of days. I planned well with lots of activities and a handy babysitter; I just might come out of this sane! So far so good. I just have to tell you about my day. If you are a parent, you will understand my triumph!
My wonderful babysitter showed up at 6:00 a.m. I don't feel guilty about scheduling her early because really, what is she going to say, "I'm busy?". She used to swim on a team that practiced even earlier so she is used to it. AND, she is very eager to earn money so she is game. I had a 20 mile run scheduled today. I did it with my good friend Cathy and then her hubby joined us on bike about half way through. We finished the run and went for coffee and baked goods. I actually got to sit outside at a cafe and enjoy coffee and treats with good people and not feel rushed.
I got home to find my kids cuddled up with the sitter on the couch. She is awesome.
I then decided that we would go to some garage sales. My boys love these things (that is of course why we go). I had a yoga class at 11:30 so we could hit a few prior to yoga. Found some good stuff, dropped the boys off at the child center and enjoyed my solitude with 40 other people for an hour. I took my time in the shower, styled my hair and put on some make-up.
Did I mention that my sitter was to return that afternoon at 4? I scheduled girls' night out! Off to 50th & France with some high school buddies. We engaged in some shopping and a long, relaxing yummy dinner.
Now some would say, "Well, you didn't spend much time with your kids." You are correct. Believe me, in the 6 days that Matt is gone, there will be plenty of that quality time. I make sure hugs and kisses are abundant, play time is utilized and cuddle/story time is o'plenty at bed time. My boys love me so much more when I can have a day like today. And who are we kidding, I love me more too!
